Why the international sports community could be trying to make nice with the US by hurting Brazil.

In the world of sports, it's known as a "make-up call." Team A gets screwed on some ridiculous call, so the referees, realizing what they've done wrong, have to instantly make up for their error by penalizing Team B in an equally dubious way.

After today's World Cup draw, it seems like A might as well stand for America, and B for Brazil.

Team USA lucked out by getting placed in Pool C with England, Algeria, and Slovenia. Sure, the Brits will be a tough test, but this is the easiest draw the Americans have gotten in years, possibly ever. On the other hand, perennial power Brazil was not treated like one, getting placed in the Cup's toughest grouping--Pool G, alongside the pesky Ivory Coast, potent Portugal, and always-terrifying North Korea (okay, maybe their soccer team isn't that good...but still...they're terrifying).

Now, some might chalk this up to good fortune for the USA, tough luck for Brazil. Only thing is, something exactly like this happened over just two months ago, but that time it was Brazil that smiled and America that cried when the International Olympic Committee shocked the world by choosing Rio de Janeiro over Chicago as the host site for the 2016 Olympics.

So the questions must be asked: is there any correlation between the Olympic Committee and the World Cup Committee? Do the result of today's draw officially even the score? Does America care enough about soccer for any of this to matter?

We will just have to wait and see. In the mean time, sports fans, apparently something unusual happened with Tiger Woods. Might be worth looking into.
